Strength & Compressibility Testing at i2 Analytical
Any loads applied to the ground through building foundations, walls, pavements and any other form of construction, will apply stresses to the materials below. Understanding how the materials will behave under such loading can be better understood through a range of strength and compressibility testing methods, thereby aiding the overall design process and reducing risk of failure through shearing or settlement.
To better understand the conditions within a material under loading and the stress-strain behavior derived from the resistance due to interlocking particles as well as the friction and cohesion between the particles, various forms of shear strength testing can be undertaken including quick undrained measuring total shear strength through to Effective Stress testing where materials are allowed to drain and consolidate prior to loading.
i2 Analytical have a huge range of shear strength testing equipment including triaxial cells of varying sizes to undertake total stress and effective stress testing, together with both 60mm and 300mm shear boxes for Series 600 compliance testing.
i2 Analytical’s consolidation testing capabilities boasts over 45 Oedometer cells. The Oedometer test measures a soils consolidation properties, where the rate at which a sample changes its height when subjected to load is measured, helping predict how the ground will react when construction is complete and thus assisting the design process and reducing risk in the future.
Our UKAS accredited laboratory can carry out testing to British and European Standards including the following:
